I was born on a small tropical island in the Indian Ocean called Sri Lanka, surrounded by sunshine, coconut trees, monsoon rains, and people who never seemed to need an invitation to drop by for a cup of tea. Then one day, I packed my life into a few suitcases and travelled thousands of kilometres through the air to a country where winter lasts longer than I thought humanly possible.
