Home Design Tips #1
Have you ever wondered why a paint color looks beautiful in one home but completely different in another? Or why a layout that works perfectly in Canada may not feel right in a tropical climate?

As an Architect and Interior Designer, I've had the privilege of designing homes in both Canada and Sri Lanka. Over the years, I've learned that great design isn't just about following trends—it's about creating spaces that work for the people who live in them and the environment around them.
A cozy Canadian home must respond to long winters, shorter daylight hours, and the need for warmth and comfort. A tropical home, on the other hand, must embrace natural light, airflow, shade, and a connection to the outdoors.

Yet despite these differences, the fundamentals of good design remain the same.
That's why I'm excited to launch the Just Homes Designer Series, a collection of practical design tips for real homes and real families.
In this series, we'll explore topics such as:
• Choosing the right flooring for your lifestyle and climate
• Selecting paint colors that work with natural light
• Furniture placement and room layouts
• Lighting design basics
• Rug sizing and placement
• Curtains and window treatments
• Bedroom design and comfort
• Styling and decorating with confidence
• Common design mistakes and how to avoid them
Whether you're living in a snowy Canadian suburb, a tropical villa, or somewhere in between, my goal is to help you make informed design decisions that create a home you truly love.
Because good design isn't about where you live.
It's about creating a home that works beautifully for the way you live.
Welcome to the series. I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with you.
Happy Reading!
Anu
